A spunky young woman and her teenage brother are wrongly implicated for some crime in their Texas town and hit the road. Their adventures turn them into rebel heroes and they set out to prove their innocence.

I’ve heard some say that The Legend of Billie Jean is one of the worst films ever made. While I could see why some might think that, I myself find some nostalgic value in this harmless and maybe more mature than it thought it was at the time teen film. People are shot, there is sexual harassment and attempted rape here. We also have G.I. Joe toys, teen romance, and some rather cheesy situations that are fun to spite themselves. All of that makes for an odd combination, but all of that also makes for a strange and interesting combination as well and I enjoy it overall. It’s one I somewhat had remembered seeing as a kid and as it went on it came back to me more and more. I’ve seen a zillion films, no telling how many as a child in the 80s. The fact that this one stuck out and I still remembered it says a lot and we shouldn’t downplay this one based on reputation alone.

Helen Slater didn’t set the world on fire as Supergirl and truth be told she didn’t set the world on fire as Billie Jean either. She is still fine and dandy in her role and she stands out in a good way here. She also isn’t bad to look at which is one of the points upon the release of the film. I mean even if the cops here are pointing out how attractive she is that means looks were important and our Billie Jean at least has that. No, this film won’t be ever attached to any top 10 lists, but the film has a fun and cheesy value and is overflowing with an 80s vibe I find really interesting. The film also looks pretty darn good in HD. I’m not saying we have a top 10 transfer either, but you get what you need and I dare you to find it better anywhere else.
