THE PETE WALKER COLLECTION VOLUME 2 presents these cult hits in a deluxe five-disc set, which will be released on April 21, 2015 with a SRP of $79.95. The set comes packed with bonus features, including five interviews with Pete Walker, produced and directed by Elijah Drenner: “Flesh, Blood, and Censorship”, “For the Sake of Cannibalism”, “An Eye for Terror”, “Promiscuous Behavior”, and “Man of Action”. Also included are audio commentaries by Pete Walker for both Frightmare (with DP Peter Jessop, conducted by writer Steve Chibnall) and House of Mortal Sin. Other features include “Sheila Keith: A Nice Old Lady?”, a profile of the late British actress who starred in Frightmare, and the 3-D sequence from The Flesh and Blood Show.
Previously released individually by Kino Lorber and Redemption, this set marks the first time that The Flesh and Blood Show, Frightmare, House of Mortal Sin, and Home Before Midnight have been available together in one collection, along with a bonus disc featuring Man of Violence and The Big Switch, which make their U.S. Blu-ray debut here. Kino Lorber and Redemption also previously released four of Pete Walker’s films, including House of Whipcord, Schizo, Die Screaming, Marianne, and The Comeback, in four-disc Blu-ray collection.
Known for his films that blend elements of horror and exploitation, British director Pete Walker’s long career in the horror genre spans over forty years. Lurking beneath the blood-soaked of his unabashedly tawdry films is the director’s sly sense of humor. A former stand-up comic, Walker laced his films with clever wordplay, and took great pleasure in using his scripts to skewer figures of religious and political authority (especially those who dared to impose their sense of morality upon others).
This second anthology of films by Pete Walker reveals the provocative director at his most diabolical. Whether skewering highbrow drama (The Flesh and Blood Show), established religion (House of Mortal Sin), or legal hypocrisy (Home Before Midnight), Walker laces his films with a wicked sense of humor and healthy dollops of sex and violence. One perfect example is the legendary shocker Frightmare, which stars aging British actress Sheila Keith as a fortune-teller-slash-cannibal in the English countryside.
Also featured in this collection are two of Walker’s early works: Man of Violence (aka Moon) and The Big Switch, which clearly foreshadow the taste for the perverse (and the flair for cynical humor) that would later become his hallmarks.
