When the matriarch of the Graham family passes away, her daughter and grandchildren begin to unravel cryptic and increasingly terrifying secrets about their ancestry, trying to outrun the sinister fate they have inherited.

Hereditary made a lot of waves when it hits theaters and I admit I heard a lot of buzz from random people on the internet as well as very close friends of mine. The story starts off with an obituary on the screen before we are introduced to the family we’ll spend the next two hours with and from almost the start you can feel that something isn’t right. Things progress, we get some shocking moments, we get some creepy moments, but I’m not sure what we get as a whole is what I’d call the best horror film of 2018 like a lot of folks have. Don’t get me wrong, Hereditary is a very well-made and creepy film, but it does fall a bit short thanks in a large part to some questionable pacing. I’d say it starts well and ends very well, but things get a little muddled in the middle and that causes some issues. I don’t think this movie needed to be two hours long and a shorter time would have helped a bit. I mean, yeah it’s good, but you can’t help but feel it could be better.

This is a film that has some great acting, I’ll admit that. I feel like the entire cast really stepped up on this one and that is probably what makes what does work here work as well as it does. That and the last act of this one will probably be what most remember the most once the dust settles on this one and the credits start to roll. I think Hereditary is a movie that could make a top 10 list this year without the person being called into question for it. I’m not sure, however, I saw enough here to make it top the list. That being said, this is the type of movie for anyone who did love such things as Rosemary’s Baby (The original) and the Omen (Also the original).
