When an undercover cop gets too close to revealing the mastermind of a drug syndicate, his cover is blown. Double-crossed and under a false identity, he’s thrown into a Thai prison, where a guard discovers the inmate – claiming he’s a cop – is a bone marrow match for his dying daughter…and his warden may have an even deadlier operation hidden within the prison walls. In this giddily frenetic follow-up (though not a sequel) to modern martial arts epic KILL ZONE (aka SPL: SHA PO LANG), action icons Tony Jaa (ONG BAK, THE PROTECTOR) Wu Jing (WOLF WARRIOR) and Zhang Jin (IP MAN 3) team up with Hong Kong megastars Simon Yam and Louis Koo for a breakneck story of dirty cops, prison riots, and black market organ transplants, all brought together by a non-stop series of inventive, bone-crunching setpieces.

Have you ever heard the term “No chill”? Kill Zone 2 is a movie that certainly has no chill what so ever. Having really nothing at all to do with the original Kill Zone, part 2 inserts legendary Tony Jaa to do what he does best and that’s give us a non-stop off the wall action flick that could be called a few negative things but boring will never be one of them. I’ve seen people say that this movie tops such things as The Raid or at least The Raid 2? It might just top part 2 and it doesn’t take too much of viewing this movie to understand why. If you watch an action movie you are watching because you want action. This is a movie that goes above and beyond to bring that to you. Sometimes it even comes at the sake of the plot, but you got to respect a movie that committed to the cause. Some of the action is done with the help of mechanics, but it never feels fake. People do things not humanly possible but you just don’t care. Then again, it’s hard to not like seeing people do such things as dive right smack through the front window of things. That’s what I can say above all else about Kill Zone 2, it is a FUN movie. It is nowhere near a perfect movie but it doesn’t have to be. I’d say it easily lands right where it was aiming for. And who needs logic when you have the action sequences a film like this comes with?

I mean, yeah, if you wanted to pick on a movie like this for some plot issues you could. I don’t really know why you’d go into a movie called Kill Zone 2 looking for a fundamental plot, but you could have some issues with the way some things seem to be hammered out here. They do seem to try to toss a very complex plot at us. It has dirty cops, a dirty prison system, people going undercover for certain family reasons, and a few other things that get really crunched together under the weight of it all. Each plot point feels like just another reason to have someone fight and I will be honest with you all and say that personally I have no issue in the world with that type of storytelling. None at all. I got the type of movie I wanted with this and I think most will as well. You might get disjointed subplots galore here, but you also get bad ass action galore and that is fine with this humble movie reviewer. If you want something to pep you up and show you well-orchestrated fight after fight, then by all means be sure to check out Kill Zone 2 as soon as you get the chance.
