It takes a different kind of cult movie fan to enjoy watching a release that is nothing but movie trailers, but I’ll be damned if I’m not one of those fans. I enjoy releases like this and I own a couple. Of course this time around we’re seeing nothing but Kung Fu movie trailers for just a little over two hours, but the time flies and it is a whole lot of fun getting from the first trailer to the last. A release like this is always fun to help people like myself find out about some new movies that maybe we hadn’t heard of before. I got into these things with a pen and paper to quickly write down names of stuff that looks cool I haven’t seen before and then try to seek it out. I did a lot of that while watching this disc. I saw a bunch of stuff I knew, have seen, and even own. But, I also saw some fun-looking stuff I had no idea about and that is what can make a release like this as awesome as it turns out to be. Basically if you love watching movie trailers, you will love this. Or if you love Kung Fu movies and watching trailers, then you will REALLY love this one even more.
One thing about this that makes it as nice of a watch as it is, is how we have these trailers in honest to goodness HD. Now, they are sorta presented “as is” with all those grindhouse style marks and such over them, but they still at the core look great and we see some of these in great details that we probably could have never dreamed of before now. It makes you want to see a lot of these in their full form in HD and while that may never happen, we can at least say we saw part of them looking as good as they are probably going to look here in this. We also get some nice extras like a feature on the brief history of Kung Fu cinema. It isn’t feature movie length, but it is enjoyable while we do have it for the thirty or so odd minutes it is on. All in all, I’m very pleased with this release from Severin and I hope it isn’t the last trailers release we see from them or other labels in general. I also hope some of the movies we see trailers of here find their way to full on Blu-ray releases themselves, but if that never happens, at least we will still have this.
