A cooler-than-ever Bruce Wayne must deal with the usual suspects as they plan to rule Gotham City, while discovering that he has accidentally adopted a teenage orphan who wishes to become his sidekick.
Lego has been doing pretty well for the brand for a long time now. No surprise the love for their version of Batman in the Lego Movie spawned a solo movie for the Lego Batman and that’s what we have here. This is a movie for kids so nothing is too heavy. Joker doesn’t paralyze anyone. Baine doesn’t break anyone’s back or anything of the sorts. This is just a fun and kid friendly trip into a Lego version of Gotham where even Joker is bad but not too bad to play a big part in the bigger picture the film is here to give off. The big goal here for Joker isn’t even to blow up Gotham or cause chaos, which he does try here as well. This Joker just wants Batman to admit that he’s his number one bad guy. Batman, on the other hand, is all stone cold in this thing not wanting to admit he needs anyone. Not a family or even a number one villain. This leads to a number of funny things, but overall the film is still giving the kids out there a message about family.
If you love Batman or have kids (or are one yourself by chance) you’ll dig what you get here from LEGO Batman. The movie packs every single bad guy I can think of in the history of the character and even some that seem made up just for the joke. We get Batgirl, Robin, and Superman even makes an appearance with the rest of the Justice Leauge. Taking things one step above just the normal DC stuff, Warner Brothers finds a way to work in some of the best bad guys from all their other films into the mix here as well. It is harmless fun, but that still makes for a good movie overall for everyone to watch and enjoy.
