Picking up immediately after the events in Resident Evil: Retribution, Alice (Milla Jovovich) is the only survivor of what was meant to be humanity’s final stand against the undead. Now, she must return to where the nightmare began – The Hive in Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse.

Well, we’ve reached that point. We’ve reached the “Final Chapter” part of the Resident Evil franchise. A franchise that has been turning out mostly solid films for a very long time now. Here we have a movie that picks up right after the events of Retribution and the action is in full effect. One could say the films have gone from being more horror based to mostly action based with just horror elements. Movies always end with us wondering how Alic is going to get herself out of this one and this one goes above and beyond to give Alice a great story to end this whole series on a higher note than perhaps some of the previous films have been leaning on. I think this is a movie series that started out really strong and I think it ends on a very solid note overall as well. We get tension, drama, horror, and blood. One could say after some of the last couple movies we’ve seen from this series that this one is perhaps better than it had the right to be. Milla Jovovich is great as always and if this is the last time we see Alice or Resident Evil without a reboot I’m a bit bummed out due to how cool the character is.

Sure, this isn’t anywhere near a perfect movie but it is still a fun movie. Not all the plot points make sense. We have issues with retelling and such when it comes to origins and what not, but the movie is still solid despite any issues the film might have in general. Sometimes you just have to turn your brain off and enjoy things for what they are and this is a movie that I’d put in the class. It is mindless fun above all else and sometimes that’s just what you need and this movie fills the void for action without much in the way of thinking. We still have tension, terror, and drama from time to time and that makes Resident Evil: The Final Chapter what it ultimately is. If you enjoy Resident Evil movies you’ll enjoy this one for sure. If they aren’t your thing, then this one won’t be either. I liked it for what it is and I think it is entertaining and watchable and that’s good enough for me.
