The lovely Ryoko is attending a Japanese University on an exchange program. She’s pretty, vulnerable, shy and full of mysterious secrets. Meeting up with her long-time friend Rumiko, Ryoko shuns her aggressive lesbian advances by saying she’s still a virgin. Rumiko is surprised at this revelation and, over the next few days, she takes Ryoko on a series of misadventures to help her with her sexual awakening. One night, after a booze and pill filled evening, a man breaks into their room and sexually assaults both women in a shockingly violent sequence. When the mysterious man’s identity is revealed, the film takes a crazy downward spiral into madness, death, and weird occult rituals. Watch for the eye-opening sequences with an Asahi beer bottle! What a product placement!
This is the first entry into Impulse’s Nikkatsu Erotic Films Collection that I have gotten in a while and what a title for this one huh? I could always just go the failed comedian route of saying in this review that the film titled Sexual Assault at a Hotel has, well, sexual assault at a hotel. There, however, is a little more than just that, but trust me when I tell you that we do certainly get that as well. We’ve seen actress Yuri Yamashina in a number of these films and I always enjoy her being in them and this is the case as well. You kind of know you will see every excuse in the book to get a character naked or raped here and that is again the same case with this particular one. I do think we need to give more credit to this one for at least having more of a story and especially for the weird factor of it, because believe me, folks, this one does take a sharp right to crazy town not long after our sexual assault person has been revealed.
As with just about every other film you will find in this series, this won’t be for everyone. Mostly people who just enjoy a good dose of sleaze in their collections will be the ones who enjoy something like this the most. It isn’t Fairy in a Cage or Sex Hunter when it comes to storytelling, but it at least manages to be interesting and creep enough, even if does take the time for the sexual stuff to still be up front and center overall. There is at least an attempt at mystery here and we do have a few really hot Asian woman naked on-screen, so you could do a whole lot worse than something like this if you are thinking about taking a peek at the latest in this long line of films released by the fine folks over at Synapse/Impulse.
