As the new king of the galaxy, King Grigorio, comes to power with an idea that ‘fitness regimes’ will keep his populace content, the once renowned bad-ass galactic rockstar, Captain Pixws, is tasked with delivering essential tanning beds to every corner of the Universe. Pixws and his crew of SICK SOCK MONSTERS find themselves on the mysterious planet, Nemesis, where they discover the gruesome truths behind King Grigorio’s galactic reign! Intense sex, drugs and violence paired with a vibrant soundtrack of vintage sci-fi orchestral works and death metal makes SICK SOCK MONSTERS FROM OUTER SPACE out of this world.

As a maker and fan of indie films, I usually like to find stuff that just sounds awful and hope for the best. Sick Sock Monsters from Outer Space seemed like my kind of awful and being released by Troma did help peak my interest a great deal. Sadly, it just wasn’t my cup of tea even if a title like that makes you just want to rush right out and watch it. I will, however, say that I applaud the style and the creative juice that went into making this one. It looks good and uses a weird concept to make a pretty good looking movie but sadly the praise stops there as the style lacks substance and ultimately we have a sizzle without a steak. You’ll come away from a movie like Sick Sock Monsters from Outer Space thinking what you have just seen is creative, but you probably won’t come out of it thinking it is any good.

But they can’t all be a winner. As much as I love Troma movies and what they put out in general, sometimes they back a bit of a lemon and that is what I’d call this one. I’m afraid a space odyssey of sorts about socks and a mission to deliver tanning showers just doesn’t do much to hold my attention. If you are a fan of Troma stuff I still suggest you perhaps give it a watch for yourself and see, but as for me, I’m not sure I’ll be checking this one out again if I can help it. I respect it for what it is but I just don’t really like it personally.
