When “The Dude” Lebowski is mistaken for a millionaire Lebowski, two thugs urinate on his rug to coerce him into paying a debt he knows nothing about. While attempting to gain recompense for the ruined rug from his wealthy counterpart, he accepts a one-time job with high pay-off. He enlists the help of his bowling buddy, Walter, a gun-toting Jewish-convert with anger issues. Deception leads to more trouble, and it soon seems that everyone from porn empire tycoons to nihilists wants something from The Dude.

The Big Lebowski was the movie that really got me into the Coen Brothers and if I compiled a list of movie you just have to see before you die, I’d easily toss it on it. There are a number of factors that play into that way of thinking. Above all else, we have “The Dude” played by Jeff Bridges. While the Coen Brothers are masters at characters and such, Bridges turns The Dude into a top 10 iconic movie character. One that by all accounts is a loser, but we love him none the less. The actin is great all around here with such names as John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, and John Turturro to name a few. But the movie has a very interesting story made with tons of stuff that you’ll be quoting for a very long time after you see it. It isn’t Pulp Fiction with the quotes, but it does come close to it. There’s a reason this movie is considered a classic and if you haven’t seen it, then you need to change that asap!

And, of course, now we have this classic coming to us in 4K! This also happens to come at a time where the film is at its 20th Anniversary as well and such is represented here. For the look of the film, I’d call it a solid 4K upgrade from the normal Blu-ray version out there. Some movies will always pop more than others and since this movie looked great in normal Blu-ray you might not get a total overhaul in 4K but it does look very good. It is a remaster and that, of course, has a big plus side to things. You also get lots of extras and that’s never a bad thing either. All in all, it is a great release for a great movie.
