After her mother’s mysterious death, Abigail Arcane (Heather Locklear) travels to the Florida swamps to confront her resurrected evil stepfather Dr. Anton Arcane (Louis Jourdan). In an attempt to stave off the effects of aging, Dr. Arcane, assisted by Dr. Lana Zurrell (Sarah Douglas), combines genes from various swamp animals and human beings, creating an army of monsters known as Un-Men. When Abby arrives, Dr. Arcane is hell-bent on taking his own stepdaughter’s life in the name of science… that is until she is rescued by SWAMP THING in this must-see sequel to the original cult classic and based on the award-winning DC Comics series!

Swamp Thing is back in The Return of Swamp Thing! This is the 1989 sequel to a film that came out in 1982 and was then directed by Wes Craven but now finds it’s self in the hands of Jim Wynorski. We’ve got the same guy playing Swamp Thing and we even have the same bad guy as before. Heck, we even have Heather Locklear here to look at, but this movie doesn’t really work that well. I mean, it was kind of bad in 1989 but it may be worse here. Don’t get me wrong, as a kid I loved this movie. It’s a movie that seemed aimed for the kids and had the makings of a good marketing movie with toys and such, which it would get as Swamp Thing would go on to get a series, toys, cartoons, and the whole nine yards, but it’s a bit of a miracle with how this movie turns out. It feels like nothing ever gets settled as Swamp Thing battles other monsters, plays around with some annoying kids, and even feeds part of himself to his love interest to share some sorta love scene that is a bit out there to say the least.

The movie looks good here and all the weird stuff and corny stuff is probably something you’ve come to expect if you’ve seen this before and it might very well be why you people are checking it out again. But let me just say that after having seen this for the first time in years I can kind of see why they went in another direction for the other Swamp Thing-related stuff you’d see later on. I do love with MVD has done with this release here regardless. The MVD Re-Wind is giving us both good and bad movies on very awesome releases and this is just as cool as the others have been. But, just don’t go into it thinking this movie will be THAT good and you’ll be happy. Keep in mind I say that as a pretty big Swamp Thing fan.
