UNEARTHED & UNTOLD: THE PATH TO PET SEMATARY is a documentary film chronicling the origins of Stephen King’s bestselling horror novel, PET SEMATARY, as well as the subsequent film based on his novel. Through extensive interviews, this documentary showcases the stories of many cast and crew members and highlights how the local communities in Maine played an invaluable role in making the film. In addition to first-time interviews by cast and crew members, this documentary will also take you on an extensive tour of the filming locations from the film – emphasizing the true local flavor and influence of Maine on this timeless horror film.

Pet Sematary is one of the best Stephen King adaptions you’ll ever see and it has a pretty interesting story to go along with it. As it turns out that story is here to be seen in its entirety with the release of Unearthed and Untold: The Path to Pet Sematary. Here we learn everything from the hard time the backstory of the book, the hard time the script had getting even greenlit to be made, casting, and a whole bunch of other cool things. We follow what went behind picking every little thing about the film and we learn of the town to which the movie was even shot in. What everyone will probably want to know is if this is a documentary that is worthy of its own release? Well, that is when this whole thing becomes a bit more tricky for me to really decide on. I mean it is an interesting documentary, but does it really offer up much more enjoyable than your average making-of doc on any special edition release for a movie?

The full-length nature of it does help a lot. At 97 minutes in running time not a stone is left unturned in the story of Pet Sematary. That helps justify the solo release there for some and I think it certainly helps with the case of it. I’m not going to say I haven’t seen other documentaries and retrospectives on releases that came with the movies they were talking about that wasn’t just as good, but I can say that this is good none the less. Plus, in this release, you get a whole bunch of extras to go along with the documentary. You get two commentaries, and even more, interviews to help you learn even more about the documentary and of course the film, Pet Sematary. I think having that helps sell this one. I know it helped sell it to me at least and I think if you love Pet Sematary you’ll love this.
