Walking Tall (2004) (Special Edition) (Blu-ray Review)
STARRING: Dwayne Johnson, Johnny Knoxville, Neal McDonough
AVAILABLE FROM MVD Marquee Collection

When it comes to laying down the law with a vengeance, one man can make a difference. Action superstar Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Skyscraper) takes no prisoners as he fights for justice and crushes corruption in this hard-hitting adventure that’s “endlessly enjoyable and a whole lot of fun” (Fox-TV)! Johnny Knoxville (Jackass, The Last Stand), Neal McDonough (Captain America: The First Avenger, Minority Report), Michael Bowen (Kill Bill: Vol. 1, Jackie Brown) and Ashley Scott (S.W.A.T., Into the Blue) costar in this “bone-cracking, adrenaline-pumping” (Arizona Daily Star) ride inspired by the true story of a man who decided to take a stand – and take back his town!

The Rock seems to make everything he’s in more enjoyable and the same can be said about his role in the remake of Walking Tall. Now, I liked the original and wasn’t too keen on seeing another one being made, but The Rock stepped in and retold this tale of a man cleaning up a corrupt town with a lot of fun and excitement behind it. You can watch a movie like this today and see why The Rock is as big as he is in action flicks. With anyone else, Walking Tall might of just been a forgettable action flick, but with The Rock is becomes a whole heck of a lot of fun. We can also thank a good chunk of that fun to Johnny Knoxville as well, who at the peak of his Jackass fame did a lot to make this one a fun flick to watch as well.

We have a lot of action here and we have a very well-paced film. You won’t be bored at all while watching and most important of all, you’ll want to see The Rock get his revenge on the bad guys and that is what a movie like this is all about. This release from MVD comes with a solid transfer and some really great extras that I will list below. One of the cool things you’ll get is an audio commentary by The Rock himself, Dwayne Johnson. If you are like me and it has been a while since you gave Walking Tall a spin, then, by all means, pick this release up and revisit it. You might just find it was better than you remember.
