Three years ago, twenty-two-year-old “girl-next door” Rachel barely survived a brutal massacre that left all of her friends murdered. Time has passed, and Rachel has moved on, but unfortunately, her close friends are spending Spring Break in a secluded house in the woods, and they have cordially invited her to join. She would never have accepted the invitation if she realized that another bloodbath would be showing up as plus one. Once Rachel and her friends arrive at the cabin, the partying, sex, and…terror begins.
WTF! takes the slasher genre and does a bit of a flip with it, as it backtracks things and jumps around a little in the time line before ultimately showing its hand in a pretty good twist. The movie packs all the slasher essentials, as in stoners and nudity, but it does try to do so with a much more modern twist than most slashers attempt to do these days. The story basically is about a girl who has apparently survived on slashing attempt before and now we pickup things just as she seems to have survived a second one. From there, she’s being interviewed by the cops and we’re now seeing everything as it unfolds. In all honesty, it isn’t a bad plot. Heck, I’d go as far as to say it is kind of clever. But the characters are where you might find you have issues with the film and it can be a big issue at times.
You see, outside of our leading lady, you really won’t like these folks. They are an 11 on the 1-10 annoyance level. They comedically try to see how many times they can squeeze in the “F-word” into every line they have and they make you want to see them killed. Now, that could have been the point of the whole thing, but it still gets a little hard to stick with these folks when they are as annoying and unrelatable as they are. We also have a very odd cameo by Perez Hilton of all people, who I wouldn’t have minded seeing killed on screen but apparently, we don’t always get what we want. Coolduder himself, Shawn C Phillips, also has a cameo and I’ve had like to actually see more of him in this. Regardless, WTF! is a movie with a very different feel and plot, but the bad characters really drag it down.
