It is that time again! It is time to see what I think makes up the Top 10 Best Horror Movies of the year that was 2017…
As I always say when I do this list, these are just my opinion.
10) THE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS
We often try to find a new twist on an old favorite and with the way the whole infected/zombie stuff is done in this movie that is just what we get.
09) THE BELKO EXPERIMENT
It is a little bit Battle Royale… Okay, it’s a lot Battle Royale, but it still is a fun and often brutal movie.
08) THE MONSTER
The Monster was put out on Blu-ray by Scream Factory and IFC Midnight in January. That being said I’m sure it was VOD in 2016 but I’m adding it anyway. This is a horror movie that can grab at your heartstrings just as well as make you jump.
07) A DARK SONG
Very brooding but it builds up to some pretty freaky stuff! If you like a slow burn with your horror this is slow burn done right.
06) GET OUT
A favorite of most it seems I enjoyed Get Out for the different feel it brung to horror. A lot of folks don’t like to admit this is indeed a horror film but I think it fits in well on the list.
Raw reminded me of a lot of older and somewhat edgy foreign horror films I use to watch. It wasn’t as outrageous as some would say but it is a solid story with some gross moments. I’m sure sooner rather than later they’ll remake it and we’ll be appreciating it a lot more.
04) THE DEVIL’S CANDY
The Devil and good ol’ rock-n-roll! It seems like those two things go hand in hand, but The Devil’s Candy had a whole lot of heart as well as a very good plot to keep you watching and to make you want to see it again.
03) BETTER WATCH OUT
Probably the best Christmas horror movie we’ve gotten since Krampus and I enjoy it much more than I do Krampus. This is a mean-spirited little holiday movie that can catch you by surprise and even make you laugh from time to time. Good stuff!
02) THE VOID
The Void was about what I expected it to be and that’s after I waited soo long to see it. I wasn’t at all disappointed with what I got. It’s a throwback to a little bit of everything all rolled into one. Not to mention the great effects.
No surprise here I don’t think! Just about everyone who saw this movie loved it and I saw it with a bunch of friends in the theater so maybe that just enhanced the experience. It’s creepy and takes things in a few directions the old version didn’t. Tim Curry is still IT to me, but this was a very worthy new take on it and it is especially eerie and creepy.
