It’s Halloween weekend, and a group of bullies are planning their annual hazing on local outcast Jacob Atkins. When they take things too far, he’s resurrected to seek revenge against those who wronged him.
Halloween might be over but it’s never too late for a horror movie or for a horror movie that takes place on Halloween. Candy Corn takes place on Halloween in a small town and shows what happens when a new carny with special needs accidentally is killed by some local bullies he knows. What happens basically is the leader of said carnival resurrects him with a mask and some voodoo and we are off and running. This isn’t a perfect movie and does tend to be a bit sloppy in a few areas. It takes what one could call the most likable character in the movie and sort of does nothing with them and it does come across a bit anticlimax in spots but I do dig the atmosphere and vibe of the movie overall.
We also have some horror legends in some smaller roles here just to add overall to the presentation. I think it works even if someone like Tony Todd could probably have been a little more used here as something than just besides a carny second-guessing his leader at times. Still, the movie has some cool kills and that goes a long way with me. While I hate the actual candy corn candy, I think Candy Corn the movie isn’t a bad addition to the annual Halloween movie watch list and while not perfect makes the best of what it has to present to us a violent and very watchable movie overall. I can get behind these types of movies and Dread seems to really be delivering when it comes to them.
