Buried by treacherous conditions at the top of Mt. Baekdu, a policeman must brave the extreme weather until his transfer comes through. When a group of thieves stumbles into the station in search of safe shelter, both sides must fight for survival in this stylish action-packed thriller.
I just want to point out that I dug the setting of this movie. I like the cold nature and the cold setting in general. I’ve been a fan of that since The Thing. This, of course, isn’t anything like The Thing, but this is a movie that does pop off with some great moments of violence. It isn’t just violence but I do like the style of this one and I have heard some people compare it to a Tarantino movie and while I could kind of see that, I don’t think anyone should go into this one thinking it’ll be just a Tarantino clone of sorts, because this movie is different than that. You can sort of see the influence but that’s something you can say about a lot of different movies and directors. This one offers up some cool things along the way and it does hold your attention even if it does end up a little short of straight out blowing you away.
This is also a movie that borrows a little from such things as The Revenant. I can feel this one borrows from several different films and it makes for a solid effort. Now, the weakest thing you’ll notice about this one is the CGI in places where CGI is used. That seems to be the issue with a lot of these foreign films that I’ve noticed. They seem to be unable to lock down the computer side of things from time to time and this is another case of that. Other than that, you will find a well rounded, violent, and interesting enough plot here in Savage. I don’t know if it does enough to go down as a classic, but it does enough to keep you locked in for at least one viewing.
