Chills and thrills: will Gotham City be put on ice? George Clooney is Batman as the dark knight battles his greatest threat yet: cold-hearted Mr. Freeze (Schwarzenegger) and venomous Poison Ivy (Thurman). Batman has more than Gotham City to protect: the youthful eagerness of crimefighting comrades Robin (O’Donnell) and Batgirl (Silversone) puts them frequently in harm’s way. New very special effects include a wild sky-surfing sequence and Freeze’s outrageous ice-blasting arsenal. It’s state-of-the-art excitement from out Batfamily to yours.

Joel Schumacher is back for the last of this Batman series but do you know who isn’t back? Val Kilmer! This time we get George Clooney under the cap and he wasn’t doing too bad for himself at the time with ER and other films. Heck, he’s probably not a bad Batman overall but this time with Robin being added in full force and Arnold Schwarzenegger (who is usually great) dropping cheesy one-liners as Mr.Freeze, this one might just be too much for any Batman actor to deal with. Keeping in with the theme of having two bad guys (Well, Bane is here too but we’ll try to forget that), we also have Uma Thurman playing Poison Ivy. I’m not sure how you go from Pulp Fiction to this, but she gives it her all it just doesn’t work. Mixing it up with her we also have Alicia Silverstone as Batgirl. These are all things that sound great on paper in 1997, but it just doesn’t work out very well overall, even in Joel Schumacher’s world of Batman.

But again Warner Brothers has outdone themselves on the disc. This another 4K release that looks and sounds amazing. It has a great list of extras and I wish we were sitting here like we were with the first two movies talking about how great they are, but that isn’t the case with this one. Batman & Robin as a whole does something that is nearly impossible, it makes Batman look lame and the character of Batman is anything but that as we saw in movies before this and movies after this. Like Batman Forever, you’ll want this release just to have all of this series of Batman movies on 4K, but there really isn’t much value to the movie as it stands alone. But it is still an awesome release for a totally not awesome movie. Hey, at least this one did give us a pretty cool Bone Thugs-n-Harmony song and video (which is on this disc).
