In the harsh, yet beautiful Australian outback lives a beast, an animal of staggering size, with a ruthless, driving need for blood and destruction. It cares for none, defends its territory with brutal force, and kills with a raw, animalistic savagery unlike any have seen before.

A giant hog is on a killing spree here in Boar! First off let me just say that the giant boat in question doesn’t look bad for a CGI hog. I was worried about that heading into it, but thankfully the look fits and it doesn’t stand out in a bad way. Keeping in mind that a lot of things happen in the dark until near the end when we get a very good look at this thing and it isn’t startling bad. Other than that we meet a few characters here and all of them are in danger from nearly the first time they appear on the screen. People die violent deaths here and that blood is one of the best things about this one, but you also tend to care about people and we have characters that are going to die that you really hope aren’t. That’s can be credited to some good writing here and that’s another strong point for Boar, a movie that I did worry about heading into it.

Speaking of characters, former pro wrestler Nathan Jones is here and he’s got a very memorable character. I remember watching this guy wrestle in the WWE back in the day and he shows a lot more signs of charisma here than he did there. We also have Bill Moseley playing a good guy for once. That’s a rare thing and I’m always happy to see that happening. Boar takes its time in spots but it strikes with some violence and gore when needed. There are a few giant pig movies out there and this one is easily one of the better ones I’ve seen. Not that the sub-genre has that much competition, but I still think you’ll like what you get here overall.
