Byleth: The Demon of Incest (1972) (BLU-RAY REVIEW)
DIRECTED BY: Leopoldo Savona
Starring: Mark Damon, Claudia Gravy, Aldo Bufi Landi

In one of the most bizarre EuroSleaze sickies of the ’70s, Mark Damon (House of Usher, Crypt Of The Living Dead) delivers an atypically unhinged performance as a duke consumed by unnatural lust for his beautiful sister (Claudia Gravy of The Nun & The Devil). Toss in depraved dollops of sex, voyeurism, demonic possession and giallo-style violence, and you get the sumptuous-yet-insane rarity The Wild Eye calls “intriguingly different and endearingly odd for Italian Horror aficionados.” Aldo Bufi Landi (Four Flies on Grey Velvet) and Fernando Cerulli (Death Smiles On A Murder) co-star in this long-lost filth-fest, directed by Spaghetti Western veteran Leopoldo Savona (Pistol Packin’ Preacher, Apocalypse Joe) and now scanned in 2k from negative elements recently discovered in a Madrid lab vault.

It has been a very strange week for reviews here at I’ve seen two different movies with one strange thing in common, incest! First, it was Arrow’s Flowers in the Attic and now here I am with Severin Films’ Blu-ray of Byleth: The Demon of Incest. A movie that comes with the plot of a guy who is in love with his sister that comes back to find her married. He then may or may not be killing local women as a result. Hey, I told you it had been a strange viewing week and if an unnatural love for someone’s sister isn’t a good reason to start wracking up a body count in a movie then I have no idea as to what really is anymore. This one comes with all that (un)natural 70’s foreign movie sleaze you might want to see. But it also is a bit more sexual stuff than blood and that is a bummer.

Sadly, this is one that feels a little repetitive in spots and the plot is weird enough to grab your attention but I’m not sure the overall movie is good enough to keep it. The movie packs good looking women and a character on a killing spree, but I’m not sure it goes over enough into that area to really win me over at the end of the day. It might be one you want to share with friends and sit around giving a watch to one day but as for me, I found a solo sitting of it to be a task from time to time. If I’m wrong and you think this is a great movie, perhaps we can agree that it does at least have a solid transfer here. But in another downside to things, this doesn’t pack any extras and that’s a bummer as well.
