Follows the adventures and travels of four petty criminals in 1873 Utah whom include gambler and swindler Stubby Preston, pregnant prostitute Bunny O’Neal, drunkard Clem, and a mentally disturbed man, named Bud, who’s obsessed with the dead. The quartet travels aimlessly through the Utah Badlands looking for food, water, and people to swindle, while they are harassed by a villainous Mexican bandit, named Chaco, whom Stubby vows revenge after the bandito sexually assaults Bunny.

Lucio Fulci is a director I love and I was very happy to finally get my hands on the Blue Underground DVD for Four of the Apocalypse! A bloody western from Fulci that some have called one of the bloodiest ever. While still a little tame by today’s standards and for what Fulci usually does as well, this one does stand out to me due to not only the performances of the main cast but due to how creative this one is. Fulci seems to go out of his way to put his spin on it and this would be a film that would hit before the main course of bloody horror films would even come from the veteran director. There’s a little romance, a little Charles Manson, a little Spaghetti Western, and a nice batch of blood tossed into this one to make-up what becomes Four of the Apocalypse! All of those things make for a great film and the movie is just one big rollercoaster, as you are never sure what the heck will happen the characters or come next.

You’d think a movie starting with a town massacre would only have down to go but that isn’t the case with this. We have people being tortured, shot, and people seeing dead people all in the same movie. It really is good stuff! The DVD comes with a few extras but this is a movie that is basically begging for a Blu-ray release and I hope Blue Underground or somebody can eventually give it the release it needs. But if you are going to pick this one up at the moment on the best possible release you can find for it, it would have to be this Blue Underground DVD here in the states. You might be surprised at how well Lucio Fulci and a Western movie go hand in hand.
