Henry Brogan is an elite 51-year-old assassin who’s ready to call it quits after completing his 72nd job. His plans get turned upside down when he becomes the target of a mysterious operative who can seemingly predict his every move. To his horror, Brogan soon learns that the man who’s trying to kill him is a younger, faster, cloned version of himself.

Will Smith is pitted against a much younger version of himself in Gemini Man! A movie that makes use of some nice CGI (Yes, I’m giving the CGI credit) to put a younger and spot-on looking Will Smith against the current Will Smith. Smith is playing a very important hit man here and after doing is his most recent job he tries to retire only to have the people he worked for trying to retire him the hard way and since he’s so good they have cloned him and sent his younger self into action after him. I know Smith seems to get some flack from the masses these days for some reason and we’re a bit away from the days where people praised everything he did (like the Independence Day era) but Smith does a great job here in both roles and it all works to sell the situation. It’s some great effects work and while I don’t know if I want to see dead actors alive with this type of technology, it makes this movie what it is. Oh, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead doesn’t hurt being here either.

If you want some action this one certainly has that. Sure, some of the action scenes are a bit unrealistic, but what do we expect from a movie that’s main plot is a man fighting a young clone of himself? The ending is in question from time to time, the characters are fine, and it’s a nice concept. If you are a fan of action movies then you’ll get enough bullets and explosions here to keep yourself entertained. While probably not classic by any means, this is a movie that offers up a good pop-corn eating nature and it never does seem to waste time or slow down once things are getting all out in the open. There’s some tension, there’s some drama, and we have a cool idea. I liked it. I know it got a bit of a mixed review from others, but I think it’s fine for what it is.
