Hoax (2019) (BLU-RAY REVIEW)
STARRING: Cheryl Texiera, Adrienne Barbeau, Shoshana Bush
AVAILABLE FROM Epic Pictures Releasing

An investigative team travels deep into the remote Colorado wilderness  after a group of young campers are viciously murdered by what may be  Bigfoot. While the highly specialized crew  searches for evidence, they find themselves in a fight for survival  against the legendary beast. What they encounter turns out to be more  unexpected and dangerous than anything they could have ever imagined.

As hard as it might be to believe, we don’t really have that many “good” Bigfoot horror movies. Well, with Hoax we can sorta toss another one on the good and solid side, as I had fun with this one and believe that most people will as well. The kicker here is probably how strong the movie starts. We see a group of people get killed-off in the woods in very violent ways and that then leads a group (made up of a few interesting people) going into the woods to find out what happened to them and if it really was Bigfoot. This group includes doctors, science folks, a father of one of the victims, and others. Some are pretty shady, not everyone gets along, and when some of them come up missing as well the fun really starts.

Then the movie goes and tosses a surprise or two at us. When this happens in the movie is when I was fully won over by Hoax. I won’t say it’s the greatest Bigfoot horror movie we’ve ever seen, but I will say it packs blood, some good characters made up of some actors we’ve seen before, and it does enough to come across as a movie that at least feels different. It goes out of its way to add a little something new to the Bigfoot sub-genre and I believe because of that a good lot of you will be happy with what you get when you see this movie. I think it’s solid and it is worth checking out. Especially if you are really into Bigfoot movies. The gore we get at times doesn’t hurt either.
