Defeated by members of the Losers’ Club, the evil clown Pennywise returns 27 years later to terrorize the town of Derry, Maine, once again. Now adults, the childhood friends have long since gone their separate ways. But when people start disappearing, Mike Hanlon calls the others home for one final stand. Damaged by scars from the past, the united Losers must conquer their deepest fears to destroy the shape-shifting Pennywise — now more powerful than ever.

When I was a kid and I watched the two-night event of the original IT, I found myself really fond of the first night that dealt with the cast as kids and a bit “so-so” on the second night dealing with them as adults. When I saw the remake of IT I loved it and it again was just about the cast as kids, I was worried the second half wouldn’t live up to the hype and I’m afraid that’s the case in a number of ways here. IT Chapter Two isn’t a bad movie but it can be seen as a bit of a disappointing movie when you compare it to what came before. The child take on this story is just so much more interesting in live form and that remains true now. No matter how good the cast is and the cast is very strong, there’s just something about Pennywise and his conflict with kids that can’t be duplicated with adults.

This is a movie that still offers up some very creepy moments. As Bill Skarsgård still managed to be a very good Pennywise and he makes this one as watchable as it is. Is everything about it as good as the one we saw before? No, but I’d still call it a solid and well-made horror flick that does manage to pack in some good moments but not on the level of the movie we saw a couple of years ago that seemed to take the horror world by storm. Cans of the world we see here will have fun revisiting it, but I still think we might see them try to come back with a new original Pennywise story to drop another movie in this particular setting. Until then, the first movie was great but It Chapter Two is just good.
