A small-town crim finds an ancient Chinese time-travel device that can help him pull off a heist and start a new life-but he may not survive the consequences of tampering with time. The Castle meets Looper, Mega Time Squad is a study in high-meets-low, combining elements of the sci-fi, the crime thriller, and the comedy to make a comedy heist film with a time-traveling twist.

Everything is going sideways and stray in the hesity but still kinda fun movie from Dark Sky films called Mega Time Squad. The only real issue is a lot of the time traveling and manipulation in the movie (and believe me it has a lot) often leaves some giant-sized plot holes in the story, so just in case for some strange reason you were looking for a nice synced Back to the Future style timeline play, you don’t really get it on such a well placed together level here. Our lead goes for a bit of a harmless double cross but gets double-crossed himself, but luckily he has a bracelet that allows time travel and as a result, we are with him as he tries to come out on top and ultimately win the day from the much worse crook, his now former boss. It’s not bad if you want to just watch a movie and eat some popcorn, but it doesn’t really hold up as well if you are expecting anything else out of it.

The movie comes to us with a kick-ass poster and it has a couple of good characters in it here and there, but sadly the leading man isn’t the best character here. He’s actually not charming in a foolish sort of way, he’s just kind of annoying and that is probably what puts this one down for me. I’m not sure if it’s the actor or the writing, but you really don’t care what happens to him and at times you just kind of wish he had been shot by the bad guys at the start before he developed his time jumping powers. So you get a movie with a nice looking cover, a couple of fun characters, but not the main one and an otherwise kind of messy film. This one really wasn’t for me.
