Maverick Chicago cop Eddie Jillette poses as a hit man to meet with someone in from New Orleans looking to have a job done. The result is that both the guy and Jillette’s partner wind up very dead, while a stunning blonde in on the setup disappears. He heads south to settle the score and soon finds himself being hunted, with the girl in tow and the local police anything but happy. New Orleans may never be the same again.

No Mercy is a A-Z guide to how to make your basic action flick. That can sometimes be a good thing when dealing with action movies, but for this one starring Richard Gere it doesn’t work out as well at all. That’s because it simply does the bare minimum and nothing ever seems new, original, or really all that tense or interesting. If you’ve seen a few action flicks in your day then you know how this one will go and how this one will end. You know the plot layout, the how and why, as well as any point this plot will take. It’s sadly that predictable. All it really has to offer up is a in her prime Kim Basinger. But that can sadly only go so far in the case of No Mercy.

The best thing this Blu-ray does offer up is a nice VHS-style slipcase. I’ve enjoyed all of those based on looks alone and it’s cool to have them all lined up on a shelf. The movie is underwhelming and it has a pretty bad transfer to go along with it. We also don’t have any extras on this Blu-ray, so we have that working against this release as well. People sleep walk through this one and I’m afraid it won’t do much for anyone else giving it a watch either. I hope Mill Creek keeps it up with these types of releases, but I’m afraid they can’t all be a home run and No Mercy proves that here.
