A once handsome playboy, César finds himself in a mental facility and he can’t remember why. All he can remember is meeting the love of his life for one day, and then getting into a car accident which left his face horribly disfigured. But the pain of becoming physically undesirable may help him to find the truth.

If you’ve never seen Open Your Eyes before it’s the movie that Vanilla Sky was a remake of. Both movies tell the same plot and both star Penélope Cruz in the very same role. However, that being said this time around we have a more indie feel to it and a little fewer bells and whistles than we get in the American remake. This movie is a bit of a trip if you’ve never run across it before. It often blurs the eyes of reality and dream and comes with a few twists and turns along the way that keep you guessing, keeps you just a little confused, and still manages to keep you interested, which is the most important thing about a movie. This one breaks the language barriers and maintains interest even if you have to read subtitles to watch it.

The dream-like sequences of the movie are what makes it a must-see for me. I remember the first time I saw this movie I was pretty much blown away by it and I loved going back and seeing it here on this Blu-ray even if it is a burn on demand BD-R. Eduardo Noriega does a great job in the leading role here and he helps carry the load of this weird and often time artsy movie. You also can’t go without mentioning Penélope Cruz. This movie is a prime example of why she is as well thought of in the movie world as she is.
