The footage of three filmmakers shooting a web series has been recovered. Intending to debunk famous Internet urban legends and rituals, they perform a blood ritual that summons an ancient primordial entity in the process. As the spirit’s unstoppable evil seeps into their daily lives the trio are left with a single choice: Submit to its will – or die.

I’ve seen a ton of Dustin Mills’ movies and for the most part, they have been a mixed bag. This could be because they are always something different. This time, however, we have him going for his take on the recent Ouija movie craze with Ouija Blood Ritual, a movie that seems more to do with creepypasta and a closet monster rather than a full-on Ouija board and what comes with that. The movie does some creepy stuff during the ending but on the way to that we have a very dull build and director Dustin Mills himself hamming it up on-screen and trying his best to hit all his emotional acting marks. That doesn’t really work. You see Mills is best when he’s working with blood and computer effects and this movie is best when that is what is happening. Everything else depends too much on tension and build and that is what this movie doesn’t do very well at all.

Ouija Blood Ritual dips into the same tropes all ghost/ouija movies dabbles into and the main thing that stands out in a good way or a unique way here might be the actual source of the movie’s ghost or evil spirit or whatever you want to call it. It’s a small cast, it tries its best to make this look as genuine as possible for the most part, but all in all, it barely reaches the finish line. Still, I’ll admit that the very finish is the best part of it. So, this is a bit aways from such things Mills has done such as Skinless, but it’s still nice to see he’s still out there doing his thing. I don’t think you’ll be blown away by what you get here with Ouija Blood Ritual, bit if you are like me and just have to get every Ouija horror movie you see, then you’ll have to get this one.
