Razorback (1984) (Umbrella Entertainment BLU-RAY REVIEW)

AVAILABLE FROM Umbrella Entertainment

A wild, vicious pig terrorizes the Australian outback. The first victim is a small child who is killed. The child’s granddad is brought to trial for killing the child but acquitted. The next victim is an American TV-journalist. Her husband Carl gets there and starts to search for the truth. The local inhabitants won’t really help him, but he is joined by a hunter and a female farmer to find the beast.

Razorback is a gritty, down and dirty movie from the down under that is coming from Umbrella on Blu-ray on a region free release. This Ozploitation classic has a little bit of everything but above all else we have a giant hog raising all sorts of hell while people try to stop it. It all starts after one female character has perhaps the worst night of her life. She’s bothered by some of the locals, then she’s taken out by the hog in question. This leads to her Canadian fellow coming over to try to find her and unleashing the chain of events that follow. It can be bloody, it can be a bit funny at times as well, but Razorback is a very entertaining horror thriller that might do for hogs what Jaws did for sharks, just on a smaller level. I know I’ll at least never look at those things the same way again now.

But you’ll enjoy looking at this Blu-ray because it has a very nice looking transfer and the outback looks great here in 1080p. The movie can be just as atmospheric as it can be anything else and the colors and look of everything pops here and that only helps with the overall enjoyment. We even get a VHS cut of the film that will take you back in a good way to the old school days of watching a horror movie. All together this makes for a great release of a very underrated film. Umbrella Entertainment outdid themselves on this one. I know we don’t have a giant roster of killer pig or boar movies out there, but among the ones we do have, you have to rank a movie like this near the top of the list. Come to think of it, a movie like this kind of makes you wish we had more giant killer pig movies out there to watch and enjoy. This movie would probably be the Jaws of that entire sub-genre.
