While adjusting to a new life in a quiet suburban community, a recently divorced mother and her two teens receive mysterious red letters instructing them each to kill or be killed. As the bloodshed begins, they find themselves in a race against time to protect the ones they love from the people they thought they knew.

Red Letter Day is a very Canadian horror flick and I say that with a lot of respect. It tells what happens on a random day in Canada when everyone gets a red letter in the mail informing them that the person’s picture in the letter has been informed that they have all day to kill them so they better hurry up and kill that person first. Now you wouldn’t think in a real-world situation this would be laughed off but in horror movie land this goes horribly wrong as even people who are trying to laugh it off end up getting in trouble and causing a ruckus anyway! This is a movie that drops a lot of names and has some witty dialogue. It is also a movie that unleashes a bit of blood on the screen too and I’m a big fan of that! Dredd has been presenting a lot of solid horror movies as of late and this is another one.

So, basically Red Letter Day is a whole lot of fun and it’s a movie that I think anyone looking for something new, funny, and bloody will enjoy. It is a well-acted movie with a lot of good characters involved and you are just never too sure just how things are going to end once all is said and done. That unpredictable nature of it is what makes it be as solid as it ends up being and I think anyone this year looking for something that feels very different should be giving this one a watch. You don’t even have to be Canadian to like what you get here but I’m sure if you are that makes things even better. It also has a couple of nice twists along the way as well. So, as far as I’m concerned Red Letter Day is a bit of a surprise but I liked it a lot.
