“Superman: Man of Tomorrow is an inspiring retelling of the DC Universe Movies’ backstory for The Man of Steel, taking the audience to his early days as an intern at the Daily Planet – and his beginnings as a learning-on-the-job DC Super Hero,” said Mary Ellen Thomas, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Senior Vice President, Originals, Animation and Family Marketing. “Darren Criss and Zachary Quinto have wholeheartedly embraced their roles as Superman and Lex Luthor for this film, and the end result is a special addition to canon of films that every Superman fan will want to add to their collection.”

DC keeps rolling out their line of solid as they come animated movies with Superman: Man of Tomorrow! I’m not 100% sure but I think this goes from the new timeline that was set after the last Superman appearance. This is an origin story but it does so in a sped-up way so that we don’t have to just hang around with stuff we already know and have already seen done. When this one finally decides to kick in we have Superman dealing with alien bounty hunter Lobo (who is always fun to have in things) as well as meeting his buddy Martian Manhunter for the first time. The rest that you know and love about Superman is here as well but not everything is dwelled on, it just sorts of happens. Superman is still new here so people aren’t as on board with this alien being here. Aliens in general is the big issue here despite Superman having to deal with a bad guy that technically isn’t alien.

That bad guy comes in the form of Parasite. A person who after a bad time hanging around a Lobo/Superman fight finds himself mutated and able to take in anything he touches and makes it part of himself. He’s almost too powerful at times, but I guess these things have to be done to make it feel like Superman is ever really in danger. If this movie has one big issue at all it’s the fact that they go out of their way to let Superman feel vulnerable against Parasite and even against Lobo and Lex Luther at other times. This is Superman and I know people don’t want to see him just wreck everything all the time, but he doesn’t need to be getting his ass kicked all the time and need to be saved all the time either. Other than that, this is good and solid fun.
