The Blob is back in this horrific tale about a vile, malignant life-form that crashes to Earth in a cozy, rural American town called Arborville. Untroubled by conscience or intellect, the Blob does only one thing – and it does it well. It eats anything and everything that moves: men, women, and children. And tonight it wants to swallow the town of Arborville. The original version of The Blob thrilled and terrified audiences back in the 1950s. Now the oozing, gooey killer is back with a whole new high-tech look. What was once only suggested now comes to life with state-of-the-art special effects in the tradition of such thrilling remakes as The Thing and The Fly.

The remake of The Blob is a movie that I’m a big fan of. This movie is one of the best midnight movies out there and that is when it is probably best viewed. I ran across this movie first when I saw it way back in the day late night on IFC (before they started having commercials) and I’ve been a fan of it since. So, a giant blob is tormenting a town and this means we open the door for lots of fun and campy stuff involving this blob stuff! We also have some very interesting characters in the middle of it all, one of which played by Shawnee Smith who many of you might remember from the SAW series today. These are some very well done characters and as a result, you don’t always know who’s going to make it out of this one alive and who won’t. This comes in handy as this stuff goes on a rampage with people being eaten, the army coming into play, people being tormented at a drive-in and all sorts of other cool things! This movie has an atmosphere and it is what is really driving it.

The effects carry the load here too as you’d hope when dealing with a “blob”. This is all done in a way that only enhances the experience of the movie and doesn’t take you out of it. There was a time that if a movie like this was made it would be filled with CGI that might be terrible, but here it’s just classic 80’s effects on display and it knocks it all out of the park. So, cool effects, cool characters, gore, and a certain mood is what makes this one of the best remakes of all-time! I’ve owned this movie on DVD and Blu-ray before, but Scream Factory has loaded this one with tons of NEW extras! That alone makes this the version I’d pick over the other Twilight Time or Umbrella versions out there. This release shows just how awesome Collector Edition releases can be!
