When teenage vlogger and aspiring actress Auna Rue logs onto a sinister website, she’s trapped in the malevolent world of a cursed stage play, The Gallows. After performing a passage from the play for her tiny online fan base, Auna instantly achieves the stardom she seeks — as well as a twisted challenge from a deadly spirit (The Hangman) in this nightmarish supernatural thriller from the company that brought you Paranormal Activity and Insidious.

The Gallows Act II is a movie with some issues. Mostly doing away with the found footage formate that the first movie had, this time around things are a little all over the place and the movie as a whole seems to be made for people with a very short attention span. We follow a young lady who wants to make it big with her online vlog. Once she starts getting traction after doing “Charlie Charlie” videos she goes deeper in as things start to get a little weird. You want to like her and follow her story here but the darn girl is written so badly that you really don’t care if she makes it through the film or not. I could at least tolerate The Gallows, but The Gallows Act II is a bit much in some areas and there’s a clear step back in quality all around. Especially in the script for this one.

This one seemingly going right to on-demand and Blu-ray might have been a bad sign out the gate for this one. Sometimes you see that sort of thing and you still are able to hope for the best. This one was made for people who watch stuff like tic-toc videos and have short attention spans. The cast plays people that are far too “hip” and while the movie does this sorta thing it loses the most important part, the story. So, you get what you get but we a far cry from the original and even that one wasn’t a classic by any means.
