Fierce gang boss Jang Dong-su (Don Lee) is violently attacked after a fender bender on a rainy night. After fighting back, he barely escapes, however his reputation as a feared leader is damaged beyond repair. The only way to restore his image is to find his attacker and exact revenge. Jang teams up with Detective Jung Tae-seok (Kim Moo Yul) to find the assailant, but soon discovers the attacker is actually a serial killer. With no support from the police department, Detective Jung is forced to use gang boss Jang’s resources in order to track down the killer. The two men must work together to find a man simply known as K.

I’m a big Don Lee fan, so that’s the main reason I gave this one a spin. I ended up enjoying it for what it is, but it does come across as just some action flick to give a watch on a late evening when you have nothing else going on. I’ve seen comparisons to this movie and the old Western The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. While I can see that in some regards with a foreign feel to it, it isn’t on THAT level. Don’t get me wrong, we have a solid movie on our hands with some nice tense moments and some action-filled moments, but it isn’t on THAT level. But on the other side of that, it is full of great actors who really carry things for the most part of the movie.

It’s one of those movies that bring unlikely people together to advance the plot but that is a dynamic that works. We’ve seen it done before, but seeing it done outside of America seems to add some new elements to the tone and to the overall presentation of the movie. I don’t know if I’d be tossing it on any top 10 lists by the end of the year, but I enjoy this one and I had a good time with it upon the first watch. I think it combines some interesting elements and plays around with some interesting themes that make it a fun watch. The action side of things doesn’t hurt either. Well Go USA keeps releasing solid films and this is just another one in a recent long time of them. I’d say give it a watch!
