In this subversive satire, a group of elites gather for the very first time at a remote Manor House to hunt ordinary Americans for sport. But the elites’ master plan is about to be derailed because one of The Hunted, Crystal (Betty Gilpin, Glow), knows The Hunters’ game better than they do. She turns the tables on the killers, picking them off one by one as she makes her way toward the mysterious woman (two-time Oscar® winner Hilary Swank) at the center of it all.

In short, in The Hunt, random people are taken and turned loose while other people hunt them down and kill them. We’ve seen other movies like this before, sure, but this one just feels different. It had a very difficult life getting out the gate to even get a release but now that it has I hope people take a chance on it because it feels a lot different than even the trailer might have made you think it was. This one straddles the line of a horror-comedy in ways or even a comedy thriller with lots of violence to go along with it. We have some false starts here with who is even the lead but once this one gets going it becomes a lot of violent fun and takes shots at both sides in the political world but isn’t so political that you can’t enjoy it, because you can. You get tension here, you get the humor, but above all else, you get a movie that I enjoyed for being as over the top as it can be at times. This one isn’t dull if nothing else.

The best thing about The Hunt for me is this is a movie you just can’t take too seriously. If it has some social commentary that speaks to you, it is what it is, but as far as just being an entertaining movie this is a movie that I could easily recommend or suggest to anyone looking for something that feels different, even if this isn’t a different concept when you get down to the brass tax. You get some good characters and you get a story that does take a few twists and turns, but the most important thing is you feel like you’ve seen something good once all is said and done. The Hunt is another movie from Universal that I could be tossing on a top 10 list at the end of the year because I really did like it that much. It’s a lot of fun and it’s pretty violent and brutal in spots.
