The Peanut Butter Solution (1985) (BLU-RAY REVIEW)
DIRECTED BY: Michael Rubbo
Starring: Matthew Mackay, Siluck Saysanasy, Alison Darcy

Severin Kids presents the “notoriously strange and creepy” ( Canadian kiddie feature about burning winos, sudden baldness, psychotic teachers, suburban abductions, juvenile sweatshops and the icky concoction that grows long lustrous pubes. Mathew Mackay, Michael Hogan (BATTLESTAR GALACTICA), and Siluck Saysanasy (DEGRASSI HIGH) star in this surreal mind-roaster that calls “The real deal…It plays like an Afterschool Special telling kids their hair will fall out, peers will make fun of you, and you will be whisked away to a demented underworld where Celine Dion sings and children beg for their lives.”

I might be one of the only people who have no memory of The Peanut Butter Solution before now. But here this French Canadian movie is on Blu-ray from Severin Films. And let me just say this is a weird one! We come into this one following a family who’s having to deal with the mother being gone, stuff happens and the next thing we know the kid here is losing his hair. Well, he basically just wakes up bald. This sets forth just a weird tale of ghosts, hair loss, hair growth, peanut butter, and lots more. Despite being a kid’s movie I’m pretty sure lots of acid was used in the making of this one. It’s just so strange and yet I couldn’t stop watching it, for better or for worse.

If you have a thing for weird movies, then you’ll get all of that and then some here with The Peanut Butter Solution. I can’t say it will have a broad appeal, but I think anyone who enjoys weird cinema will be more than happy with what you get here. The movie looks good here as well and comes with some very solid extras. Anyone who’s been waiting for The Peanut Butter Solution to hit Blu-ray here in the states will be very happy with the results and if this is your first time seeing this odd movie you will be in for a very interesting viewing experience.
