Prepare to blast off from planet Earth with one of the most popular classic sci-fi films of all time! When atomic scientist Dr. Meacham (Rex Reason, The Creature Walks Among Us) is chosen to take part in a top-secret research experiment in a remote lab, he quickly discovers that he is really involved in an evil scheme by alien Metalunans to take over Earth. After he and the gorgeous Dr. Adams (Faith Domergue, It Came From Beneath The Sea) make their escape shortly before the lab explodes, they are whisked away in a flying saucer to Metaluna, where they are blamed for the destruction. Will interstellar negotiation save the day or will the scientists be forced to take part in a treacherous battle to the death?

This Island Earth is an interesting film. In some areas, the alien from this movie is considered an extended member of the Universal Monster family. I think it stands out mostly due to the look of it. This movie looks really good here in HD and has some very vivid and cool looking colors for a film from 1955. You also get the option for ratios when watching. The only real issue I have with this one is the slower pace it has, especially out of the gate. As the aliens come down and visit and bring everything with them that they do it gets set up in a bit of a slow-ish fashion. When our leads enter space is really when the fun starts and if you can just make it to that point I’m sure you’ll enjoy what you see here with it.

This is one of those sci-fi movies that is best watched late at night as it really sets the mood for it. I’m a big fan of these types of movies that pack a nice atmosphere and creepy vibe to them when watched in the right setting. This one might not get in a hurry plot-wise at the start but when it all things start rolling and coming together it does deliver. It finishes better than it starts and the disc packs some cool extras on it as well. This movie is one I know a lot of people have been waiting for to hit HD and now that it has I think the release is one everyone will highly enjoy. This isn’t a “Collector’s Editon” but it packs enough stuff on it to make you think that it should very well be. This is one for all the Sci-fi and Universal fans out there.
