Set to a new wave ’80s soundtrack, a pair of young lovers from different backgrounds defy their parents and friends to stay together. A musical adaptation of the 1983 film.

I don’t know if the world really needed a remake of Valley Girl but we got one anyway. There’s nothing wrong with that per se. Remakes happen all the time and some are pretty enjoyable. But that being the case, we have some issues here with the remake of Valley Girl. One of the more obvious ones is the fact that it really wasn’t made for a man of my age. The movie follows the plot of a woman telling her daughter about a guy she met in the 80s. We go back to the 80s to see it and we have a musical on our hands with people singing just about every cool song from the time and we also have Logan Paul threw into the mix for good measure. This isn’t a movie for us older folks I don’t think. The original movie was a story about some teens that run across one another one night at a party and what follows. This is more bells and whistles playing to the younger folks and hoping for nostalgia.

That all being the case, I’m still not saying it is a bad movie. It’s a movie that just isn’t made for me. It might be just fine for the youtube generation. The rest of us at least have a well-made and shiny looking movie to watch. And if you like music from this time as I do, then you can’t hate on the musical choices. I also like the cast for the most part. I’m a big fan of both the leading lady played by Jessica Rothe and her friend played by the always good Chloe Bennet. If you go into this one expecting more of what you got with the original you might be a little let-down, so just expect it to be a new thing.
